Body, Mind and Spirit – Introduction

Before we get carried away, we need to set some definitions.

Life has a defined beginning and an indeterminant end.  It requires nutrition, shelter, companionship for safety and reproducing.  Life flourishes when it’s balanced, neither too much nor too little - it is stressful when it becomes imbalanced.

Living happens 1 day at a time.  It is day-to-day events that are 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it. (Charles Swindoll, Evangelic Pastor, author, and educator)

The body is the entire structure of a human being.  Conception establishes the beginning and the blueprint along with instructions for creating, repairing and replacing every cell, every 7 years for a fixed number of times as well as their function.

The body is composed of many different types of cells that together create tissues and subsequently organs and then organ systems.  It has 5 senses:  sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch.  The body is: self-replicating, self-repairing, self-energizing and self-protecting.  And it is: adaptable, resilient and forgiving.  But the body is not indestructible.

Mind refers to a person’s knowledge, understanding, views, and/or opinions.

Spirit is the innermost part of a person. Simply said, it is your conscience.  The Spirit is the central point of a person’s emotions, thoughts, will, and morality.  Acting like a 6th sense, it warns and attempts to guide you when faced with a choice.  Many Religions believe it to be the place where God interacts with humans, guiding them towards righteousness and spiritual growth – if someone is listening.

Choices are binary.    A choice will either turn out to be beneficial or harmful - and you get to choose.

Homeostasis is a central concept in physiology - it simply means balanced.

Stress is Stress.  Whether it exists in a physical, mental or bio-chemical form, it will knock the body out of balance, and you will suffer the body’s cry for help.

I have written two easy to read, inexpensive books to help people navigate through their dilemmas.  Life is Linear, Living is Cyclical, a map out of the land of confusion and Holistic Lifestyle Medicine Made Simple, method, strategy and techniques, the owner’s manual you should have received with your birth certificate.  The information has helped a multitude of people.  Perhaps you’re next.  It’s your life, it’s your choice.

Choices have consequences that's how life gets in the way of living. During a session, one of my clients shared this nugget : “I thought I’d live forever - I just didn’t think forever would come this soon!”

Occam's razor is a scientific and philosophical rule “plurality should not be posited without necessity.” The principle gives precedence to simplicity: of two competing theories, the simpler explanation of an entity is to be preferred.
